Welcome to the James River Kennel Club
The James River Kennel Club is an American Kennel Club (AKC) member-club representing the Lynchburg, Virginia area including Bedford, Amherst, Appomattox, Nelson, Campbell and Pittsylvania counties.
JRKC members are active in conformation, obedience, agility, and field events, providing educational and training opportunities to members of the purebred dog fancy as well as educating the public about the sport of purebred dogs.

The JRKC is an all breed non profit dog club whose main objectives are:
A. To further the advancement of all breeds of pure-breed dogs.
B. To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of all breeds of pure-bred dogs and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and obedience trials.
C. To conduct Sanctioned Matches, Dog Shows, Obedience Trials, Field Trials and other events sanctioned by the American Kennel Club.
Additionally, the club is active in supporting local area dog shelters, the Special Olympics, and providing educational programs for members and non-members alike. Current club members are from a myriad of counties surrounding the Lynchburg area and come from all walks of life, but with one thing in common — an intense love of dogs, all dogs. It is this love of dogs that brings our members together each month. It is this love of dogs that each month we come together to share information, plan events and revel in our dogs.
In addition to monthly meetings the club holds conformation training every Wednesday at the Boonsboro Ruritan Club building for members to train and practice for the show ring as well as providing puppy socialization and periodic obedience classes for the general public.
Each year the club, in conjunction with the Roanoke Kennel Club and the New River Kennel Club, helps host the Mountain Valley Cluster Dog Shows at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia. These all-breed dog shows will be held this year from July 29–August 3, 2009.
